Paul John Single Malt Whiskies on a Winning Streak

When an Indian distillery launched their flagship line of Single Malt expressions in England back in 2012, no one knew what to expect. But with every sip of our drams, we swept people off their feet with flavour, intensity, and above all, character.

Established in 1992, John Distilleries Pvt. Ltd grew to be a leading spirit company within less than a decade, not just in India but across the globe. Now available in over 28 countries, Paul John Single Malts have cemented their place among the multitude of World Whiskies.

Our range of Flagship and Select Cask expressions have made it a habit of winning awards- bowling over award juries around the world & winning over fifty international awards in the last five years. Here’s a peek at the awards we’ve won over the last few months.

Paul John Peated Gold Medal at Spirits Selection 2017
Paul John Peated won the Gold Medal at the Spirits Selection 2017 by Concours Mondial De Bruxelles

The Spirits Selection is held in Chile by the Concours Mondial De Bruxelles – a 25-year-old authority on wine and spirits. The contest saw 1140 spirits from 54 different countries competing, with 66 tasters from 22 nationalities judging the contest. Peated Select Cask reigned supreme, winning a Gold Medal. This brought Paul John’s total medal tally at the event up to 7 in the last three years, and continued Peated’s unique run of having won a medal in all the three years it has entered the contest!

The World Whisky Masters attempts to venture beyond the traditional whisky homes of Scotland, Ireland and the US, to find an exciting array of expressions that are bursting with quality. Paul John improved its fine run from last year, where we won a gold and four silvers. This year, Peated Select Cask was awarded the prestigious “Master” medal, with Brilliance and Classic Select Cask snagging a gold each. “[Peated] really reminded me of a good Islay whisky,” observed judge Pierre-Marie Bisson. “Everything that I like in a nice Ardbeg or an aged Laphroaig was in here. It was meaty.” Bold and Edited rounded off the performance by winning silver medals. That Boutique-y Company’s Paul John 6 year old – Batch 2 bottling repeated its fine performance from last year by bagging another Gold this year.

Now in its 48th year, the aim of the International Wine & Spirits Competition is to award excellence to wines and spirits worldwide, encouraging recognition for quality products. Entries into the Competition were received from nearly 90 countries worldwide and each sample was judged according to its class and treated with the same care and consideration in the Competition’s dedicated tasting premises. All five Paul John expressions had a stellar showing, winning 4 silvers and 1 bronze. The Peated, once again, stood out with the Silver Outstanding Medal.

Paul John BOLD, EDITED and CLASSIC all won awards at ISW 2017
EDITED, BOLD and CLASSIC were all winners at Meiningers International Spirits Awards (ISW) 2017 winning two golds and one silver medal.

Meininger’s International Spirits Awards took place for the first time in 2003 and is now regarded as one of the leading spirits competitions worldwide. The 60-strong jury of experts pored through 900 spirits from around the world in the 14th iteration of the awards. Edited and Bold laid claim to Gold awards, with Classic bagging a Silver.
