To un furl the saga of The Great Indian Single Malt, one must descend from the foothills of Himalayas to the coves of Goa; where each bead of the Paul John Single Malt is clad with the tricolour of India. As each whisky has its own character and each cask has its own flavour, Paul John Single Malt is a unique blend of sumptuous indigenous spices, barley from the foothills, demineralized water from the coasts and new-age technologies which enables the distillery to produce the optimum. Distilled and matured in Goa due to its unique micro-climate, impulses the maturation at the speed of three or four times higher than Scotland. Traditionally designed copper pot stills have been installed by experts from the UK, to boost the production capacity up to 12000 litres per day at an angel share of 8% per annum. The maturation of the Malt is done in carefully selected American white oak casks, and are stored in an underground temperature-controlled cellar.
Our Master Distiller Michael D’souza
Perfecting the art of composing the finest single malt whiskey is the work of the master. With each bottle embodying a strong characteristic; Michael D’Souza the master distiller, guards each character by keeping up the traditions and value of the distillery. Embodied with excellent skills and craft, Michael became the Master Distiller at John Distilleries in 2009. He has been steering the distillery from its critical stage of mashing to fermentation and distillation to maturation of the whisky. He also keeps a keen eye on the blending and preparation of whisky for bottling, to ensure the optimum quality of Indian liquor not just domestically but worldwide.
Michael was recognized as the ‘Master Distiller/Master Blender of the year 2017’ at the Icons of Whisky India Awards. These awards have been initiated by The Whisky Magazine to recognize and “celebrate the people and places behind the great whiskies of the world”.
Keeping in mind the symbolic relationship between each and every whisky, the master produces the liquid of life which is perfect to its last dram.

The various expressions of The Great Indian Single Malt is the fusion of the four elements. Each bottle has a significant characteristic of its own and is not bottled blonde. Currently producing about seven to eight varieties, the journey towards creating the most sumptuous whiskey began with Brilliance followed by Edited and Bold expressions of whisky. With 46% ABV, the non-chilled Brilliance is a non-peated whisky, Edited has a hint of peat, while Bold is the epitome of being a peated whisky.
The Select Casks Whiskies are drawn from select casks hereby gaining a distinct character, the single casks is unique and has limited availability while the rarities- Kanya and Oloroso is a blend of intense flavours, all of which draws us closer to the land of its origination-India. As the full-fledged production is done in India, the case of peat which adds to the smokiness is imported from Scotland.
