Man Behind The Brand

To break into the higher echelons of the Single Malt world is no mean task. But Paul P. John, the Chairman of John Distilleries Pvt Ltd, wanted to create an Indian Single Malt that would enthral even the truest whisky connoisseur. Guided by his singular passion, tomes of wisdom and the extraordinary skill of his Master Distiller Michael D'Souza; they set forth on the journey to create the Great Indian Single Malt. With each sip of every expression, one can relish with fervour, the rich flavours of India. Paul P John ventured into the alcohol beverage industry in 1992 and within a short span of just over a decade, his reach spread from his headquarters in Bangalore, Karnataka to neighbouring states and across seas. It is his zeal to surpass the ordinary that led him to create a range of exceptional award-winning single malts, fine whiskies & wines.

6-ROW BARLEY FROM FOOTHILLS OF HIMALAYAS

We use six row barley sourced from across the vast lands of Rajasthan and Haryana to the foothills of Himalayas. Due to high fiber and protein content, the six row barley offers a distinct and bold depth of character to the spirit. The more proteins and tannins in the barley the more of fatty acids that add to the whisky's robust character.

Owing to the higher husk content, the barley produces an oilier wash. This obviously translates to an oilier, richer spirit. This is one of the key reasons why all Paul John whiskies are bottled at least 46% and are all non chill-filtered.

The Indian 6-Row Barley is used create the unique flavour profile of Paul John Single malts. Although the strain of barley has a lower yield in comparison to commercially used 2-row barley, its superior quality makes it our raw material of choice. It is also higher in protein content and lends to more robust flavours in our single malts.

GOA & WATER

Goa was specially chosen as the home of our single malts, not just for its unique micro-climate but also because the destination holds a special place in Mr Paul P John's heart. Having always enjoyed the beaches, food and the warmth of its people, Goa was but the perfect choice to set up the malt plant. Water is one of the most important ingredients in the making of whisky and the pure underground table of water in Goa, along with rain-fed water sources and water flowing through the Western Ghats that are naturally filtered through the Goan wetlands, ensure the quality of our whiskies, with its perfect balance of minerals.
