The second release in their Zodiac series, Paul John Mithuna is their representation of Gemini. Aged in new charred American oak and finished in ex-Bourbon, it pulls from the dual sides of oak casks used in whiskey: new and used.
Made from unpeated malt, bottled without chill filtration and delivered at cask strength it's also a direct representation of the distillery itself. So much happening in one little bottle.
Now, let's get to drinkin'!

- BALANCE, BODY and FEEL
Ruddy copper
Herbal oak, s'mores, fruity candy, Nilla wafers, waxy cherry, and some cocoa.
This aroma stands out starkly from all the other Paul John I've had, this is unique… and lovely
Caramel, chocolate-covered cherries, vanilla cream, herbal spice, graham, cocoa, oak, dried fruit, and some light hazelnut.
Heavy and dark, it's a slow-moving tidal wave of herbal sweetness and spice.
Long - Herbal spice, oak, malt syrup, and roasted nuts.
Well-balanced, full body, syrupy feel.
PAUL JOHN MITHUNA - OVERALL THOUGHTS AND SCORE
Three-word summary: Dark spiced syrup.
So rich, so deep, so heavy, it's a multifaceted experience I don't want to end. I'm finding nuances and notes on each sniff and taste. Adding water brings out a dry candy note, like a Necco or Smarties, and enhances that herbal spice notes.
While Paul John Mithuna isn't my favorite PJ of all time it's up there… way up there. The herbal character is as alluring as it is interesting and working through the layers with a bit of water turns an after-work dram into an evening of exploration.
SCORE: 4.5/5 (very good, highly recommended ~ A- | 90-93)
